It is no secret that Instagram allows users to unsend messages they have sent to others. It gives users a level of control and privacy, letting them remove texts they may want to delete from a conversation. However, it also raises curiosity about the content of these unsent messages. The question remains: can you read unsent messages on Instagram, and if so, how can you do it? Let’s find out if there is a way.
Discover Retracted Messages On Instagram
Perhaps it was a mistake, or maybe the sender had second thoughts. Whatever the reason is, Instagram does not provide a direct option to read deleted messages. However, we will explore alternative approaches that might help you somehow.
Note: These methods are not official. Additionally, it’s important to respect other users’ privacy and not use these methods to invade their personal space.
Method 1: Enable Notifications History
Most Android smartphones these days come u with built-in Notifications History feature that keeps a log of past notifications received on a device. If you have Notification history enabled on your phone, you can see the unsent message from them directly.
Note: Smartphones don’t have the same Settings options, and they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Hence, ensure the correct settings before changing any on your device. These steps were performed on Samsung S20 FE 5G, as shown in the illustrations below.
1. Launch Settings on the device and tap on Notifications.
2. Tap on Advanced settings.
3. Tap on Notification history and scroll down to Instagram.
4. Tap the downward pointing arrow and see all the received notifications, including that of the unsent message.
Remember, you can only see the notification received in the last 24 hours.

4. Tap on Request a download followed by Select types of information.
5. Select Messages and tap on Next.
6. Choose the Media quality and Date range and then tap on Submit Request.
You can download the data files within 4 days, once received.
Method 3: Save Push Notification
If you do not have a built-in notifications history feature on the device, you can use notification apps as well to save them and read the unsent messages on Instagram.
Note: The information provided below is only for informational purposes. We do not endorse such third-party tools for subsequent usage.
1. Install Notisave from the Play Store and launch the app.
2. Allow notification access to Notisave.
3. Tap on the Messages icon at the bottom left corner followed by Add to group.
4. Scroll down and toggle on Instagram.
And that’s it! You can now read your friend’s every unsent message.
