How to Type Square Root Symbol on iPhone Keyboard

Even though maths has too many problems, the square root is always positive. Now, the iPhone does have a square root symbol, but, finding it can be difficult for people new to the world of iOS. We’ll find it out and use it.

How to Use Square Root Symbol on iPhone Calculator

Usually, when you open the calculator, you can’t see any (√) symbol in portrait mode. To find it out, all you need is to change the orientation to landscape. Follow the steps below:

1. Drag the control center down and turn on the screen rotate option.

2. Open the Calculator app on the iPhone and rotate the screen.

You will now be able to see and use the square root function.

3. Enter the number you want to find the square root for and tap on the square root symbol.

How to Type Square Root on iPhone

You can also insert and type the Square Root symbol (√) in texts on your iPhone. Now there isn’t a built-in square root symbol in the iOS keyboard. Fortunately, we have a few workarounds that can help you with the same.

Method 1: Copy & Paste

You can copy the square root symbol from a source and paste it directly where required on your iPhone. Follow the steps below:

1. Open the Safari web browser on your iPhone and search for the square root symbol.

2. Long press the square root symbol in the search results and select the Copy option.

3. Now that the square root symbol is copied on the clipboard, you can paste it anywhere you want.

Method 2: Set Text Replacement

iOS offers a Text Replacement feature that allows users to set shortcuts for longer phrases in order to simplify the process of typing. You can also set a shortcut for the square root symbol. Follow the steps:

1. Copy the square root symbol following Steps 1 to 3 in Method 1.

2. Now, open the Settings app and tap on General followed by Keyboard.

3. Select Text Replacement.

4. Tap on Add or the + icon at the top right corner.

5. In the Phrase text field, paste the copied square root symbol.

6. In the Shortcut text field, add any symbol or phrase that would indicate the keyboard to enter the associated phrase.

Now, when you type the shortcut in any text field, it will automatically be replaced with the square root symbol.

Method 3: Use Third-Party Keyboard Applications

If you want an easy way out, you can download third-party keyboard applications on your iPhone such as SciKey, Symbol Keyboard, & Nuten, and use them.

1. Open the App Store, search for any of the keyboard apps as preferred, and then Download and install it.

2. Follow the path: Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.

3. Tap on Add New Keyboard…

4. Search and select the downloaded third-party keyboard.

You can now by default use the new keyboard with a built-in square root symbol.

How to Type Cubed on an iPhone

Cubed or any other exponent can be easily accessed via the calculator in the iPhone. However, when it comes to typing in the text format, there is no key for that on the iPhone keyboard. Nevertheless, just like square root, you can follow the  Text Replacement workaround to type cubed on the iPhone keyboard. Follow the steps below:

1. Launch the Safari web browser and search for the cube symbol or x cube.

2. Copy the cube exponent.

3. Now follow the path: Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement

4. In the Phrase text field, paste the copied exponent.

5. In the Shortcut text field, type the phrase or symbol that will be replaced with the cubed exponent each time you type it.

6. Tap on Save at the top-right corner.
