In case you have already uploaded a profile picture and it is public on your feed, do not worry. You can still hide it from others on your feed. All you need to do is follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Open Facebook and navigate to the updated profile picture post.
2. Tap on the three horizontal dots on the top right corner of the post and select Edit privacy.
3. Tap and select Only me.
Now although the post will still be on your feed, only you will be able to view it. No one else would see the post and know that you have changed the profile picture.

How to Update Profile Picture on Facebook Without Losing Likes
Facebook allows you to set an already uploaded photo as the profile picture. This way, you do not lose the amount of likes or comments on the original post. Follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Open Facebook and tap on your profile picture at the top-right, next to Write something here… text bar.
2. Tap on the camera icon and then on Select Profile Picture.
3. Swipe right to move to the UPLOADS section.
4. Choose the photo that you want to use as the profile picture.
5. Tick the checkbox to the right of Share your update to News Feed and tap SAVE.
Once the picture gets updated, it comes on top of your feed with the same amount of likes.
