Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) lets you send and receive messages on your Android device that have photos, videos, audio files, and other types of multimedia material. MMS can be helpful, but there are times when you might want to turn it off, like when you want to save money on data, stop media from downloading automatically, or fix problems with messages. Method 1: Disable Auto-Retrieve for Multimedia Messages
Follow the steps mentioned below to disable auto-retrieve for multimedia messages:
- Open the Messages app on your Android device.
- Tap on your profile at the top-right corner.
- Tap on Message Settings.
- Swipe down and tap on Advanced.
- Turn the toggle off for Auto-download MMS.
After turning this setting off, your device will not download any MMS messages with pictures or videos.
Method 2: Use a Third-Party Messaging App
There are many third-party apps like QKSMS, Pulse SMS, Textra SMS, and Signal. Many of these apps allow you to completely turn off MMS functionality.

- Install the Signal app from the Google Play Store.
- Grant all the permissions asked and set up your account.
- Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.

- Uncheck all the boxes and tap on OK.
- Tap on When using Wi-Fi.
- Uncheck all the boxes and tap on OK.
- Select Roaming.
- Uncheck all the boxes and tap on OK.
Now, no data will be downloaded on your device.
