Snapchat has gained immense popularity as a platform for sharing photos, videos, and messages that disappear after a short time. Sometimes however if you suspect that someone is active on the platform but aren’t sure how to confirm it, we will guide you. In today’s article, we will discuss how to tell if someone is using Snapchat. Let’s uncover their activity on the popular social media platform.
How to Determine if Someone Is Using Snapchat
Often users look out to connect with someone and engage in real-time conversation with them on the app. Snapchat Active status only shows when a user is actively engaged within the app and one cannot be seen active on the platform when generally using their phone. However, a few subtle signs can help you make an educated guess. Let’s go through them.
Method 1: Keep an Eye on Snapchat Stories
Monitoring the stories of a person on Snapchat is the easiest and the most reliable way to tell if someone is using Snapchat. If they’ve just shared a story, only a few seconds ago, then it is enough to say that they’re online.
Also, you can post a story, and if they view it immediately then they may be online. However, Snapchat story views are not in the order of who saw your story. Therefore if you check it later and they are already on the viewers’ list, you cannot assume when they were online.
Method 2: Turn On Story Notifications
It becomes tricky to track their presence through stories when they upload one from the camera roll. Snapchat does not show the timestamp of when the story was uploaded but when the image was actually clicked or saved on the device.
In such cases, you can enable notifications for their stories. So, anytime they upload a story, you will be notified about them being active.
1. Open Snapchat and tap on your Bitmoji at the top-left corner.
2. Tap on the gear icon at the top right corner, followed by Notifications.
3. Tick the checkbox next to Stories from friends.
4. Scroll down and tap on Manage Story Notifications.
5. Tick the checkbox next to the username of the friend whose story notifications you want to receive every time they post one.
Method 3: Use the Snap Map
To keep an eye on a particular person, the Snap map is the most reliable feature of the platform. You can see the current location of your friends on Snapchat as well as their last active time. To access it:
1. Open Snapchat.
2. Tap on the GPS (location) icon.
After opening the Snap map, you can see the Bitmojis of your friends on this map.
3. Click on the Friends button at the bottom-left corner.
4. You would see the last active time of your friends under Find Your Friends.
However, for privacy reasons, some users turn on Ghost Mode on the app. If someone has enabled it, you would not be able to see their location on Snapchat.

Method 4: Analysing Snap Score
Snap score is a score given to every user, that calculates the number of snaps sent and received on the platform. Snapchat updates the score a little later after the activity. Constantly monitoring someone’s Snap score can help you to find out if the person is using Snapchat or not.
1. In the Chat window, tap on the Bimoji of the person whose snap score you want to check.
2. Check the number under their Snapchat username. That is their current score.
3. Recheck after some time and see if there is any increase in the score.
Any changes in it suggest that the person was active.
Method 5: Send Snaps
A quick way to check and tell if someone is using Snapchat is by watching the activity of Snaps you share with them. Whenever you send a snap to someone, it shows a red or violet-colored arrow under their user name with Delivered written next to it.
Now, when they tap on these snaps, the arrow becomes hollow, indicating they’ve opened the snap you sent and you can easily infer that they’re online.
Method 6: Use the Chat Window
Using the chat window is the most reliable way to figure out if someone is using Snapchat or not. Messages and snaps are delivered instantly on Snapchat.
If at that very moment, you open their chat window and their Bitmoji pops up from the bottom-left corner, then you can say that the person is using Snapchat, has seen your message, and is present in your chat window itself. Additionally, if a person starts typing, you can see that as well.
