How to Remove a Reaction on Facebook from Someone Else

Facebook’s introduction of Reactions in 2016 gave users a way to engage with posts beyond just the simple Like. With emoji reactions for Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry, people could express a wider range of emotions on the content their friends and followed Pages were sharing.

However, this new engagement option also opened the door for potential misuse or trolling. Maybe an angry ex reacted with a laughing emoji on your emotional post about a difficult life event. Or a disgruntled former friend angrily reacted to your celebratory photos. In situations like these, all you may wish to know is how you could remove someone else reaction from your post.

Unfortunately, current settings on Facebook don’t allow you to remove someone else’s reaction to your posts and photos. The only reactions you can remove are your own. But there are still some steps you can take to limit who can react to your content.

Method 1: Limit Who Can Comment and React

One way to prevent unwanted reactions in the future is to limit who can comment and react to your Facebook posts and photos. This won’t remove existing reactions, but it can stop certain people from engaging that way going forward.

  1. Open Facebook and tap on the three lines in the top right corner.
  2. Tap on Settings & privacy, and then on Settings.
  3. Scroll down, tap on Posts, and then on Who can see your future posts?
  4. Choose either Friends or Friends except to restrict certain people.
If you chose Friends except, select the names of specific Facebook friends you want to restrict.
  5. Tap on Done.

Method 2: Limit Past Public Posts

If you want to update the audience for past public posts on your Timeline, you’ll need to do that individually for each post:

  1. Go to the public post on your Timeline that you want to limit.
  2. Tap the three dots icon in the top right corner of the post and select Edit Privacy.
  3. Choose either Friends or Friends except to limit the audience.
  4. Tap the backward-pointing arrow at the top left corner to confirm your action.

Method 3: Turn Off Reactions for Your Page

You cannot completely remove reactions on your Facebook page. However, you can hide the reaction count if you want.

  1. Open Facebook and tap on the three lines in the top right corner.
  2. Tap on Settings & Privacy and then on Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Reaction preferences.
  4. Turn the toggle on for the On your posts option to the right to hide reactions.

Method 4: Report Reaction

You cannot directly report a reaction on Facebook. However, you can report the account of the person.

  1. Go to the profile of the person you want to report.
  2. Tap on the three dots on the right side of the message option.
  3. Tap on Report profile.
  4. Select your reason for reporting the post where the harassment occurs via their reaction and tap on Done.

Tap on done

Facebook’s moderation team will review the report and take appropriate action if the reaction violates their harassment policies.
