How to Permanently Block Apps on Android
Method 1: Use Android’s Built-in Digital Wellbeing Features
- Open Settings on your phone and navigate to Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
- Tap on Dashboard to view your app usage statistics.
- Find the app you want to block and tap the hourglass icon next to it.
- Set the app timer to 0 hours and 0 minutes to block the app for the day, and tap OK.
- Repeat this process for any additional apps you wish to block.
Do note that as the app timer resets every day, you’ll have to do it all again every day.
Method 2: Use Third-Party App Blockers
If you’re looking for a better solution, third-party app blockers can be a great option. Some of the popular app blockers include AppBlock, Freedom, and FocusKeeper:
1. AppBlock
- Download and install AppBlock from the Google Play Store.
- Open the app and grant the necessary permissions.
- Tap on the + icon then tap on + Add.
- Select the app you want to block and tap on Save.
- Tap on Create.
2. Block Apps & Sites Wellbeing
- Download and install Block Apps & Sites Wellbeing.
- Open it, tap on the + icon at the bottom, and then tap on Select what to block.
- Choose the app you want to block, tap on the Done icon, and again tap on Done.
- Tap on Block now then select duration and end time.
- Lastly, tap on Block now.
Method 3: Using Parental Control Apps (Google Family Link)
Parents who want to keep their kids from using certain apps on their phones can block certain apps with parental control tools.
- Download and install Google Family Link on both the parent’s and child’s devices.
- Sign in with your Google account on the parent’s device and create a Google account for your child if they don’t have one.
- Follow the instructions to set up Family Link and connect the two devices.
- Once set up, open the app on the parent’s device, and select your child’s account.
- Tap on Manage settings then tap on Controls on Google Play.
- Tap on App controls, select the apps you want to block, and tap on Block.
Method 4: Using Built-in App Management features
- Go to the Settings app on the device.
- Tap on Apps and select the app you want to block.
- Tap on the App timer option and set 0 hours to 0 minutes.
- Lastly, tap on Done.
