  1. Click on Finder and select Application.
  2. Scroll down and select iMovie.

  4. Click on the plus icon and select Movie.
  5. Select the video file from your Mac and click on Open.
  6. Click on Titles from the top ribbon.
  7. Now, select your font title and drag it down to the video clip. Please note that you can also double-click on the title font to add it to the video clip.
  8. Drag the title box over the clip if you wish to add the subtitle or caption.
  9. Click on the title box from the right panel of your video to add subtitles or captions.
  10. Select options like Text font, size, color, and style from the top ribbon.
  11. Click on File from the top left ribbon.

Option 2: Via iPhone and iPad

You can also use your iPhone to insert captions on your clips from iMovie.

  4. Import your video clips and tap on Done.
  5. Select your video clip and tap on the T icon from the bottom right corner to insert captions.

Can iMovie Automatically Add Subtitles to Videos?

No, currently there is no feature to automatically add subtitles using iMovie. Users have to manually select their clips and enter their text.

Can You Import an SRT File into iMovie?
