  1. I think there is an easier way.
    Right click on the task bar to get a menu of options, pick the second down ‘search’ another set of options will appear. The bottom one is ‘open on hover’. Untick this box – and ta da, no more random opening of the search box every time your pointer wanders over that bit of the screen.
