Method 1: Update Messages App

1. Locate and tap the Google Play Store icon to launch it.

Method 2: Clear App Cache

Sometimes, you notice that a message is not downloaded due to some reason. It shows errors like Message received not downloading, Couldn’t download the message, Downloading, Message expired or not available, or Message not downloaded. This notification depends on the Android version, and it may vary accordingly. No worries! You can still read your messages by following the given steps:

1. Tap on App Drawer in Home Screen and then, tap Settings icon.

2. Go to Apps settings and tap on it.

4. Search for Messages and tap on it, as depicted below.

5. Then, tap on Storage.

6. Tap Clear cache button to remove cached files and data.

7. Now, open the Messages app again and try downloading the message as Android messaging app not working problem must be fixed.

Method 3: Wipe Cache Partition in Recovery Mode

Alternately, all the cache files present in the device can be removed completely using an option called Wipe Cache Partition in the Android Recovery Mode, as follows:

1. Turn OFF your device.

2. Press and hold Power + Home + Volume up buttons at the same time. This reboots the device in Recovery mode.

3. Here, select Wipe cache partition option.

Note: Use Volume buttons to go through the options available on the screen. Use the Power button to select the desired option.

Method 4: Perform Factory Reset

Factory reset is usually carried out as a last resort. In this case, it will solve Android messaging app not working issue. Make sure to back up all files before you undergo a reset.

Option 1: Through Recovery Mode

Follow the below-mentioned steps to perform a factory reset of  your phone using the Android Recovery mode:

1. Power off your device.

2. Press and hold the Volume up + Power buttons simultaneously until the EMUI Recovery Mode screen appears.

Note: Use the Volume down button to navigate to Recovery Mode options and press the Power key to confirm it.

3. Here, Choose the Wipe data/factory reset option.

5. Wait until the factory reset process is completed. EMUI Recovery Mode will appear again after the factory reset is done.

6. Now, tap on Reboot system now to restart your device.

Option 2: Through Device Settings

1. Find and tap on the Settings icon.

Method 5: Contact Service Center

If all else fails, contact the authorized service center for help. You may get your device replaced, if it is still under warranty period or repaired, depending on its terms of use.
