3.If you do not have “Shell Icons” key then right-click on Explorer select New > Key.

4.Name this key as “Shell Icons” then again right-click on “Shell Icons” folder and select New > String Value.

Now Right-click on Shell Icons folder and select New then String Value

5.Name this new string as 179 and hit Enter.

6.Double-click on 179 string then change the value to the full path of the custom .ico file you want to use.

7.If you don’t have any file then download the blank.ico file from here.

8.Now copy and paste the above file to the following folder:

C:\Windows\

Move the blank.ico or transparent.ico to Windows Folder inside C Drive

9.Next, change the value of the 179 string to the following:

C:\Windows\blank.ico 
OR
C:\Windows\transparent.ico

Change the value of the 179 string to the location of the .ico file

10.Reboot your PC to save changes.

11.If in future you need to restore the Double Blue Arrows Icon then simply delete the 179 string from Shell Icons folder.

  1. You can just kill the explorer task and then start it again after making the registry change. No need to restart the whole computer.

  2. I tried that and the blue arrows are on every file and folder on windows 10. No one file or folder has a check mark for compress contents to save disk file. Is there away to get around this?
