Can You Book an Uber with Phone Number?
Yes, you can now book an Uber with a simple phone call. At the annual Go-GET event which concluded on 17 May 2023 in New York City, Uber announced that users will now be able to call the toll-free number 1-833-USE-UBER (1-833-873-8237) in the United States to book cabs with revived Ride-hailing feature. The company will hire agents who can communicate in English and Spanish to assist users book their rides.
The ride-hailing feature dates back to December 2020, when it was launched for select regions including Arizona and Florida. When a user books a ride through a phone call, the details will be sent via messages, including the driver’s name, picture, license plate number, and ETA.
Users will be able to tip drivers for their services. However, one can do so during the ride in cash, tips cannot be made with the phone call method.
At the same event, the company also announced that teenagers can now have their own accounts on Uber and Uber Eats. However, only a few limited in-app features will be available for these accounts. The following are key points from the recent announcement.
- Teenagers will be able to book a ride only with a high-rated driver on the platform.
- Parents will have the option to track location.
- Drivers will not be able to change the destination during the ride.
- Only teenage passengers will be able to change their destination during a trip.
- Safety features will always remain on during the trip, including an in-app emergency button and audio recording.
- A teenage rider will not be allowed to make trips outside a city.
Teenagers between the ages of 13-17 will be able to create their Uber accounts in some US and Canadian cities, starting May 22, 2023.
