Amidst content and transitions, Instagram Reels involve lots of creativity. Did you just drop a killer video on Instagram that someone remixed and now you are curious about how to see who remixed your Reels on Instagram? No worries, we’re about to spill the beans and track down creators who gave your content a subtle makeover. Let’s get straight into it.
How to See Who Remixed Your Reel
Remix feature on Instagram allows other users to create a new Reel using your existing content. One can edit your video as preferred, i.e., Add text, stickers, voice-over, and filters. Moreover, they can even create a TikTok-like duet video using your clip and post it on their profiles.
If a public account remixes your Reels video or photo, you’ll receive a notification about it.
- If you make your Instagram account private for more than 24 hours, all the remixes will be deleted.
- While remix creators can download your content, you cannot download the same they created with your reel, feed video, or photo.
- When you delete a reel or photo from your feed, all the remixes created with it are also deleted.
- If you restore any photo or video within 30 days of deleting it, all the remixes made using it will be restored.
If you have a public account, anyone on the platform can remix your content. However, they can’t do the same if you have a private account. You can enable, disable, and manage this feature as per your likeability. We’ll read about it further in this blog.
What Happens When Someone Remixes Your Reel and Should You Allow It?
Imagine your Reel is a song playing on everyone’s Instagram. When someone remixes it, it’s like making a duet or mashup. Now they can edit your clip as required, even cut portions to it, or even use it as a green screen. Now when it comes to allowing remixing on Instagram, there are certain pros and cons that you should evaluate before coming to a decision.
Pros of Instagram Remix
- It exposes your content to a wider audience. Potentially, more people will view your reel, like, comment, and engage with it, which also can help you gain followers.
- It fosters a sense of community and collaboration.
- In a fun and refreshing way, it can give your content a new lease on life with unexpected interpretations.
Cons of Instagram Remix
- Your content becomes vulnerable to how it is used. Others can edit it, add their elements, and potentially change the message or context.
- One might use your Reel in a way you find offensive or disrespectful.

How to Protect Your Instagram Images and Reels from Being Remixed
If you do not want others to remix your Reels or photos, you can disable the feature in your privacy options.
1. Open Instagram, move to the profile page and tap the three lines icon at the top right corner.
2. Tap on Settings and privacy, scroll down, and tap on Sharing and remixes.
3, Under What people can remix, toggle off the following options:
- Allow remixes of reels
- Allow remixes of feed videos
- Allow remixes of posts
Now if you do not want to disable these options, one thing you can do is add a subtle watermark with your username or logo. If they won’t be able to download the video without the watermark, it might discourage unauthorized remixes.
