Earlier only community admins were able to send announcements to all members at once for better interaction. However, Meta pushed this a step further.

On May 1st, 2024, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature for communities called events that helps users plan online get-togethers on the platform. Favorably, not just the admin but any member can create an event.

Here’s how to schedule an event in your WhatsApp Community:

1. Navigate to the group for which you want to schedule the event.

2. Open the chat and tap the Attachment icon in the chat box.

3. Tap on Event.

4. Add Event name and Description.

Event descriptions can be a maximum of up to 2048 characters. You can also add a Zoom link or link to any other platform.

5. Set event date, time, and location.

6. You can also enable the toggle for WhatsApp call link and set the Call type if required.

You can add a WhatsApp call link for the event up to 60 days in advance.

Add the Event name, Description, Date, Time, and Location as desired. You can also enable the toggle for WhatsApp call link and set the Call type.

7. Tap the Send button in the bottom-right corner to share it in the group chat.

Once created, all other members can view and respond to it so that everyone knows who are the expected guests. Moreover, those who register to attend the event will receive automatic reminder notification as the event approaches.

How to Edit an Event in WhatsApp Communities

In case you scheduled an event in the community group already but now need to make some changes to the same, here’s how you can:

1. Open the group chat in your community in which the event was scheduled.

2. Tap on Edit event in the event text shared earlier in the group.

Note: If you do not find the shared event message, tap the group name at the top of the chat box, then the event, and tap on Edit event.

3. Make changes as required and tap the Send button at the bottom-right corner.

Do note that only the event creator can edit an event.

Once done, all group members who responded yes to the event will receive a notification that you have updated it.

How to Cancel Event in WhatsApp Communities

Here’s how you can cancel an event scheduled earlier in your community:

1. Open the group chat in your WhatsApp community where the event was scheduled.

2. Tap on Edit event option.

3. Tap on Cancel event and then Yes to confirm.

Once canceled, group members who responded yes to the event will be notified about the cancellation.

How to Schedule a Meeting or Group Call on WhatsApp

Just like video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and more, WhatsApp also now has a feature with which you can schedule a call in advance. Here’s how:

1. Open WhatsApp and tap on Calls at the bottom-right corner.

2. Tap on Create call link.

3. Select the Call type.

4. Tap on Send link via WhatsApp and share it in your group.
