Method 1: Enable UPnP on Your Router

1. Search for the default gateway IP address that you’ve noted down in your web browser.

2. Enter your credentials to access your router.
3. Then, navigate to the ADVANCED option followed by Forwarding. Now, you can see UPnP.
Note: You can also find the UPnP section in some other tabs depending upon the router you use.
4. Click on Enable UPnP by checking the box next to it.
5. Click on Apply or Save. Your NAT Type will be changed.
Method 2: Put PS4 to DMZ
DMZ stands for demilitarized zone, a perimeter network that separates your local area network from untrusted traffic by adding an extra layer of security. Here are the steps to set up a DMZ:
1. Navigate to the DMZ settings in your router’s menu.
2. Enable DMZ and enter the previously noted IP address of your PS4. Save the changes you made.
3. Now. access the Settings on PS to check if the NAT type is changed.
Note: When you set up a DMZ for your gaming console, your device will be able to receive connections from the outside and might become vulnerable to intruders and data thefts.

Method 3: Use Port Forwarding
Port Forwarding is a safe and easy method to change the NAT type on PS4 without putting the security of your device at risk. Here’s how you can use port forwarding:
1. Locate the Forwarding Section and click on Virtual Servers.
2. Type the Port Numbers you want to forward in Service Port and Internal Port.
Sony has recommended the port numbers listed below for PS5:
- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479
For Xbox One, you can type this port number:
- UDP: 88, 500, 3544, 4500 and TCP and UDP ports: 3074
3. Now, click on Save.

Can You Change the NAT Type Without Access to the Router PS4?
Changing the NAT type without access to the router is not possible as most of the configurations typically need to be made on the router itself.
However, if you don’t have physical access to it, you can still change the NAT type by logging in online, and from there you can follow the above-mentioned steps to complete the process.

How to Check Nat Type on PC
NAT stands for Network Address Translation which translates the various private addresses of your network to a single public IP address. Meaning that the NAT is a mediator between your private network and the internet through the modem.
There are three NAT types:
- Open (NAT Type 1)
- Moderate (NAT Type 2)
- Strict (NAT Type 3)
You can easily check the NAT Type on your PC through your router settings. Follow these steps to see how:
1. Press Windows+R and open the Run dialog box. Enter CMD in the search bar and click OK.
2. Enter the command ipconfig in the terminal and hit Enter.
3. Go to Default Gateway and copy the number under it.
4. Enter the number into the address bar on any browser and Login into your network.
5. Now check the router’s settings for the NAT type.
Note: You might notice a distinct NAT settings option on your router, depending on its configuration. If you can see a Firewall setting, you might still be able to verify the exact NAT option if you can’t see it.
Your NAT type will be displayed at the bottom of the page along with your IP address which you’ll need if you want to change your NAT type.
How to Change NAT Type from Strict to Open on PC
You can directly make your NAT open through settings on your PC. Follow the steps below:
1. Go to your Settings, click on Network & internet, and click on Advanced network settings.
2. Click on Advanced sharing settings and then turn on toggle Network discovery.
Your NAT type will change from strict to open and become discoverable.
