Note: Since smartphones don’t have the same Settings options, they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Hence, ensure the correct settings before changing any on your device. The steps were performed on the Samsung S20 FE 5G, as shown in the illustrations below.

Here are a few methods to fix this error:

Method 1: Clear Cache Data

Corrupt or damaged cache data and files could trigger issues in the functioning of the app. Clearing them out can help. Follow the steps:

1. Open Settings and tap on Apps.

2. Select Instagram from the list.

3. Tap on Storage, followed by Clear cache.

Method 2: Update Instagram

Outdated apps are vulnerable to bugs and software glitches. Update it to be able to share your post on your Instagram story:

1. Search for Instagram. in the Google Play Store.

2. Tap on Update.

Method 3: Log Out, Restart Device, and Re-login

If the error still persists, we suggest you log out of the app and login once again after restarting the device. It will help clear out any temporary glitches.

1. Open Instagram, move to the profile page and tap on the three horizontal lines icon at the top-right corner.

How to Fix Can’t Share Others’ Post to Instagram Story Error

Stumbled upon a post that’s too good not to share with your followers, but unfortunately, unable to do so? Here are some ways to resolve it:

Method 1: Ask Account Owner to Change Privacy Settings

You might have noticed the absence of the Add to Story option when you tap on the Share button under someone’s post. This is because their account is private and you cannot share posts from private accounts to stories. Ask them to follow the steps:

1. Navigate to Settings and privacy menu.

2. Under Who can see your content, tap on Account privacy.

3. Toggle off the Private account.

Note: On making the account public, all the pending follow requests will be automatically accepted.

Method 2: Ask Them to Allow Sharing 

Now, if the Instagram account is not private yet you can’t repost someone’s post to your story, that could be because the account owner has disabled the option to Allow post sharing to stories. If possible, ask them to enable the option.

1. In Settings and privacy menu, tap on Sharing and remixes.

Method 3: Report the Problem

If the error persists, you can report the issue on Instagram and wait for them to help.

1. In the Settings and privacy menu, tap on Help.

2. Tap on Report a problem.

3. Again tap on Report a problem, followed by Include and continue.

How to Share an Instagram Story from a Private Account

Now if the above methods were not applicable in your case and hence you can’t share their post on your Instagram story, here is a way around. Follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Instagram and navigate to the post you want to share.

2. Tap on the Share icon and then select the Copy link option.

3. Once the link is copied, move back to the feed and tap on Your story.

4. Add a background and then tap on the Sticker icon at the top.

5. Select LINK from the options.
