How Do You Make a Long Post on Facebook

A long Facebook post can be helpful when you need to provide in-depth explanations, educational content, storytelling, or raise awareness. It allows you to share comprehensive information, express your thoughts, and engage in meaningful discussions. Additionally, long posts can display your expertise, share research findings, and promote events or causes.

However, it’s important to consider the topic, audience preferences, and content quality to ensure effectiveness. Ultimately, selecting the appropriate post length can help you achieve your specific goals and connect with your target audience.

If you want to write a long post on Facebook, here are some steps that you can follow:

Note: Facebook allows up to 63,206 characters, which is approximately equal to 10,000 words, per post.

Step I: Plan Your Post Ahead of Time

Before you dive into writing, take a moment to plan your post’s structure. Consider what you want to convey, why it matters, and who your intended audience is. Outline the key points you want to cover and arrange them in a logical order.

Step II: Write Your Detailed Post in a Word Processor First

Write your post in a word processor, like Microsoft Word to make it as extensive as possible. This will also help you avoid typos and formatting errors by writing in a word processor or note-taking app. Also, it will allow you to track word and character counts.

Step III: Ensure Proper Formatting

Make the Facebook post reader-friendly using paragraphs, headings, bullet points, emojis, hashtags, and other publishing tools. Break down lengthy text, use headings for emphasis, and employ bullet points or numbered lists for clarity. Emojis add personality and emotion to your post.

Step IV: Create Visual Appeal

Add relevant images or videos to enhance your post’s context and appeal. High-quality visuals break the monotony and attract attention, but ensure they align with your message.

Note: You can also add a color background to your long Facebook post to make it interesting.

1. Visit the Facebook website and Log in to your account by providing the required credentials.

2. Click on the What’s on your mind text box.

3. Add the picture or videos and fill in the text details about your post topic.

Step V: Proofread and Edit Out Mistakes

Polish your post before publishing by checking for errors in spelling, grammar, and clarity. Ensure coherence, conciseness, and relevance. Remove any unnecessary or redundant words or sentences. Tailor the tone to resonate with your audience and purpose.

Step VI: Publish the Post and Engage

When satisfied, click on Post to publish your post on Facebook. Then, engage with your audience by responding to comments, questions, and feedback respectfully and promptly.

Does the Length of Facebook Posts Matter?

The length of your Facebook posts can have an impact on how they perform and how they are perceived by your audience. Research and analysis suggest that shorter posts generally receive higher engagement (likes, comments, and shares). They are easier to read, comprehend, and react to, which suits mobile users who dominate Facebook.

However, this does not mean you should always restrict yourself to writing short posts. Sometimes, you might have a lot to say or a complex topic to explain. In that case, writing a long post can be beneficial for you and your audience.

Long posts offer unique advantages:

  • More Value: Long posts allow you to provide comprehensive information, adding value to your readers’ experience.
  • Showcase Expertise: In-depth posts help showcase your expertise and authority on a subject.
  • Build Trust: Detailed posts build trust and credibility with your audience, leading to stronger connections.
  • Foster Discussion: Engaging content prompts more discussions and feedback from your audience.
  • Boost Visibility: Long posts can increase organic reach and visibility, as Facebook rewards meaningful content.

So, what’s the ideal length? Facebook allows up to 63,206 characters (around 10,000 words) per post. However, not many will read such lengthy content unless they are genuinely interested. A more reasonable range is between 500 and 1,000 words (approximately 3,000 to 6,000 characters).

What is a Good Length for a Facebook Post?

The perfect post length depends on your goal, audience, and content. There is no one-size-fits-all formula for the perfect length of a Facebook post. Though these are some general guidelines that you can follow:

  • Engagement Focus: Aim for shorter posts of around 50 characters for higher engagement, as they are appealing and catchy.
  • Balancing Act: To strike a balance between engagement and value, the medium-length posts of around 250 words keep readers interested.
  • Information and Value: The longer posts of around 500 words or more are ideal when you want to provide more value and in-depth information.

Remember, these are average suggestions, and experimenting with post lengths is key to finding what works best for you and your audience.

What is the Character Limit for Facebook Background?

Facebook’s background feature allows you to add some color and style to your text-only posts, making them visually attractive. However, using a background reduces the character limit to 130 characters. This calls for concise and precise writing to avoid text being cut off or hidden behind the See More option.

    Hello,

How do I get more content into a simple ‘What’s on your mind’ FB post and still be able to have a colored/ themed background? Seems if I exceed a small number of characters, i.e. 100 or so characters, the ‘started as a colored/ themed post’ wipes out the color/ theme and goes to only simple text…

I have seen others’ posts that are rather long.. i.e. 200 characters…w/ a ‘view more’ arrow toward the lower portion of their post…to click to ‘see more’ of the remaining lengthy post.

I thought I had it figured out a while back but can’t seem to replicate a longer colored/ themed ‘What’s on your mind’ post from my FB profile page…Ugh!

    Thanx,
    Rick
