Fix Cannot create key error writing to the registry: You do not have the requisite permission to create a new key

The operating system will not allow you to make changes in certain system critical registry keys. Nevertheless, if you want to make changes even in such registry keys, you will have to take full control of these keys before Windows will allow you to make or save the changes.

Generally, this error occurs because of the system protected Keys and once you tried to access them you will definitely get this error.

Before you open the registry editor as admin, the first backup your Windows registry and create a system restore point (Very Important). Next, navigate to the registry key where you want to make the change.

1.Close this error dialog box and right-click on the registry key where you want to make the changes and click on Permissions.

2.In the Permissions box, under its sole security tab, highlight your own Administrators account or user account and then check the box under Full ControlAllow. If it is checked then uncheck the deny box.

5.Do you see another owner like say, Aditya or anything other than your account? If so, change owner to your Name. If not then type the user name of your account and click check name, then select your name. Click Apply and then OK.

6.Next check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” and the check “Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object.” Click Apply then click OK.

7..NOW again in the Permissions box, under its sole security tab, highlight your own Administrators account and then check the box under Full Control – Allow. Click Apply and then OK.

  1. hi Aditya! amazing article!! but here’s one problem i’m stuck on: I deleted all the options under shellex -> contextMenuHandlers -> WorkFolders in order to solve slowed right click problem, but I can’t find “new” option anywhere when I right click, I am unable to create new folders :(. Please help me!

  2. On step 6, it says “Unable to Set new owner on image file executions. Access Denied”. Running on windows 11. What now?
