WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is working on adding several new features to enhance user experience. The latest update is set to introduce a range of duration options for the Disappearing Messages feature, providing users with more flexibility in choosing how long their messages remain visible before they are automatically deleted. Yes, you read it right. WhatsApp to introduce 15 new durations for disappearing messages feature. WhatsApp is currently planning to bring an update for disappearing messages that will include 15 durations and this feature has been spotted during the development of WhatsApp Desktop beta. Although WhatsApp allows users to send disappearing messages that automatically disappear after a certain period of time, with this feature, users can control their disappearing messages and access flexibility.
The Meta-owned app has also allowed its iOS users to keep messages from disappearing. In one of our previous articles, we shared the news that WhatsApp will be launching audio chat on Android. This new feature, however, will ensure that the messages will not get stored permanently on the recipient’s device or server, ensuring the user’s privacy in their conversations.
Currently, WhatsApp supports 3 durations for disappearing messages which are 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days. According to WABetInfo, “However, we recently discovered that WhatsApp is working on adding more durations for disappearing messages, and we can expect to see these in a future update of the desktop app: As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is working on several new durations for disappearing messages under the “More options” menu.”
This simply means that the latest update will allow its users to set up disappearing messages by choosing any of the 15 new options which will be, 1 year, 180 days, 60 days, 30 days, 21 days, 14 days, 6 days, 5 days, 4 days, 3 days, 2 days, 12 hours, 6 hours, 3 hours, and 1 hour. The option for more durations will definitely offer users greater control over the messages they send and receive.
WABetaInfo confirms that WhatsApp has been working on implementing these new durations in a future update for WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android, hence ensuring their large user base that all platforms will eventually have access to these additional options for setting up disappearing messages. You can use any of these given duration options while sending a disappearing message, especially when sending a confidential or important message, the 1-hour duration could come into use as it disappears quickly.
