Summer Game Fest 2023: All the Biggest Announcements

Geoff Keighley took the stage at the LA YouTube Theater as he kicked off Summer Games Fest for 2023. The event that started from Keighley’s spare bedroom apartment in 202o has become an important event in the gaming industry. As always the show, which was streamed on various video platforms received 350K views within the first 10 minutes and saw a series of new announcements and reveals from different game developers and franchises As the event is now a wrap let’s have a look back at all the big announcements and everything that happened during the Summer Game Fest 2023.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Announced

At the Summer Game Fest 2023, Ubisoft announced the latest Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It was the first game announced at the event with a brief trailer. The game teaser met with roaring applause from the crowd and online audience. The new series promises to be a thrilling homage to the series’ 2D roots. Mentrix, a composer originally from Iran, becomes a valuable addition to the project, utilizing her expertise to craft an enthralling soundtrack that deeply connects with the game’s setting. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is set to release on January 18, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC, and Amazon Luna.

Collaboration Between Street Fighter 6 and Exoprimal Announced

At the Summer Game Fest 2023, Capcom surprised everyone by announcing a collaboration between Street Fighter 6 and Exoprimal, the two highly-anticipated games of 2023. The collaboration game is set to release in the fall of 2023. Earlier, Street Fighter 6 saw its release at PlayStation Showcase and is already available on Xbox. On the other hand, Exoprimal is an upcoming game set to release in July 2023. A teaser for Street Fighter 6 x Exoprimal collaboration was also revealed at the event.

Remnant 2 Gameplay Trailer and Release Date Revealed

Gunfire Games unveiled an exhilarating gameplay trailer for the much-anticipated sequel, Remnant 2 during Summer Game Fest 2023, sending waves of excitement through the gaming community. The trailer introduced viewers to Narude, which promises to be unlike anything players have encountered in the Remnant universe. The official Twitter handle of the game also tweeted announcing the release of the game. The Remnant 2 release date is set for 25 July 2023.

Mortal Kombat 1 Extended Gameplay Revealed

The Summer Games Fest saw the revealing of the extended gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. However, an even more, exciting development is the inspiration behind the iconic game character, Jean-Claude Van Damme finally said Yes! to Mortal Kombat 1. The trailer also introduced exciting new features, such as the inclusion of assist characters, or Kameos, promising deeper customization and exhilarating combo possibilities. The tagline for the game read “It’s mine & I won’t give it without a fight” and promises to have an action-packed adventure. The game is set to release on September 19, 2023.

Spider-Man 2 Game Release Date Revealed

Spider-Man 2 is set to release on October 20, 2023 the date was revealed at the Summer Game Fest. The game will allow players to assume the roles of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, taking control of each Spider-Man at different stages of the game. While navigating the open world, which encompasses Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, players have the ability to seamlessly switch between the two characters. The developer, Insomniac stated that each Spider-Man has their own unique storylines and missions. Spider-Man 2 was previously announced at the PlayStation ShowCase event in May 2023. 

Nicolas Cage as a Playable Character for Dead by Daylight

The star of movies like Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Face/Off, National Treasure, and Raising Arizona, Nicolas Cage is all set to join the popular game series Dead by Daylight. In a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest 2023 Cage joined the host Geoff Keighley to announce his involvement in the popular video game. Cage is also lending his voice to the game’s character, giving an extremely immersive experience. Each voice, grunt, sound effect, and everything is to be timed out with an accuracy of a split second. The game will be arriving on July 25 for both PC and consoles.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Is Coming in Early 2024

During the Summer Game Fest 2023, Square Enix finally revealed the release window for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed game. Taking inspiration from the enchanting landscapes of the original Final Fantasy VII, protagonist Cloud, and his loyal companions embark on a magnificent journey through scenic grassy fields, capturing the essence of natural beauty. The trailer delicately teases a nostalgic homecoming to the beloved Cosmo Canyon, a place that holds a profound and enduring place within the hearts of fans. The game will be launched early in 2024.

Alan Wake 2 Gameplay Revealed at Summer Game Fest 

The gameplay for the much-anticipated Alan Wake 2 was revealed at Summer Game Fest. An extended video trailer of the game revealed the exciting gameplay and various characters in the game. The game is set to release on 17, October 2023 for various consoles. The game will allow users to play alone with Alan or play with Alan and Saga or switch between both forms. Since the new game stands alone, you won’t be required to have prior play experience with the game and can start afresh.

Fortnite Wilds Trailer Released Featuring Optimus Prime

What can be considered one of the major announcements from the event, the Fortnite Wilds trailer was released that featured Optimus Prime from the famous Transformer series. Fortnite, remains a cultural phenomenon, constantly pushing boundaries. The recent introduction of a cyberpunk-themed season merely marked the initial step in a series of groundbreaking collaborations. From Coachella to Star Wars, Attack on Titan to Spider-Man, and even the artistic brilliance of Yoshitaka Amano from Final Fantasy, Fortnite seamlessly weaves together diverse worlds, solidifying its status as a groundbreaking platform for cultural fusion.

Immortals of Aveum Warriors Unleashed at Summer Game Fest 2023

Immortals of Aveum Warriors received a roaring reception from the crowd as it revealed a jaw-dropping battle sequence while also revealing the gameplay of the popular game. The main character wields the power of three distinct colors of magic, out of which, explosive red magic can be used for assaults, rapid-fire green magic for swift strikes, and purple for dominance over an area. The game will feature several popular TV actors voicing the characters. The game will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on July 20, 2023

Under the Waves: Launched on Ocean Day

The latest Ocean Exploration game, Under the Waves, was also launched at the Summer Game Fest 2023. June 8 also marked International Ocean Day making it a fitting date to reveal the launch of the game, It will be available from Aug 29, 2023. The developer Quantic Dream will be bringing the game to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Gamers will embark on an exhilarating underwater adventure set in 1979, where elements of science fiction, fantasy, and retro aesthetics seamlessly merge.

Netflix Revealed The Witcher Season 3 Premiere 

The popular Netflix series The Witcher premiered its season 3 trailer at Summer Game Fest. The popular show that features Henry Cavill as the lead will begin its third installment on June 29th on Netflix. This season of the show will see Geralt and Yennefer fight to keep Ciri safe as war brews on the Continent. 

Microsoft Celebrates 75th Anniversary of Porsche by Giving 75 Limited-Edition Xbox Series X Consoles

Although Microsoft Xbox didn’t appear much during the Summer Game Fest 2023, it still made an impactful presence by giving 75 limited-edition Xbox Series X consoles to mark the 75th anniversary of Porche. The IGN Twitter handle shared the giveaway stating, “Xbox racing fans are in for a treat with this Le Mans skinned Xbox Series X available for giveaway at #SummerGameFest.” 

Sonic Superstars a New 2D Classic Sonic Game is Coming This Year

The latest installment to the popular game series Sonic named Sonic Superstars is coming in the fall of this year. The brand new sidescrolling Sonic game by SEGA will come with a four-player co-op, which will allow players to choose between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, and play with up to four players at the same time. The game will be available for all platforms upon release.

 

The other biggest announcements from the Summer Game Fest 2023 include:

  • Like a Dragon: Gaiden: Formally known as Yakuza, the game is set to release on 9 November 2023.
  • Star Trek Infinite: Developed by Nimble Giant Entertainment, the popular sci-fi franchise game will be coming on June 16, 2023.
  • John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: Saber Interactive, Focus Entertainment, and John Carpenter came together to bring back 80’s horror.  The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2024.
  • SandLand: Coning for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC The exciting new game was revealed at the Summer Game Fest.
  • Palworld: Pokemons but with guns! Palworld brings exciting new adventures and releases in January 2024.
  • The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria: The popular adventure fantasy game will be coming for various platforms in fall 2023.
  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden: Brought by Dontnod, the new gameplay footage was revealed at Summer Game Fest.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3: Jason Isaacs, best known for the portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in the beloved Harry Potter series, joins Baldur’s Gate 3 as the villain in the game.
  • Twisted Metal coming to Peacock: Will Arnett took to the stage to announce the new Peacock series Twisted Metal that will be airing on July 27.
  • Marvel Snap to get a new game mode: The Conquest Mode is coming to the Marvel Snap, the new mode is coming to the card battler on June 13.
  • Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Trailer Launched: All set to launch on June 14, the new trailer for Call of Duty season 4 was launched at Summer Game Fest 2023.
  • Path of Exile 2 Gameplay Trailer: A new gameplay trailer for Path of Exile 2 was launched at the event. The isometric action RPG game is set to come on July 28
  • Lies of P Gets a Demo and New Release Date: Pinocchio-inspired game Lies of P will be coming on September 19, 2023. A new trailer was also revealed for the game.
  • Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2: The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this winter.
  • Yes, Your Grace Sequel Announced: Launched in 2020, the indie game Brave at Night and No More Robots will get a sequel which will come next year. 
  • Witchfire: From the makers of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Painkiller, and Bulletstorm. The game will launch for early access on September 20, 2023.
  • Honkai Star Rail Gets a PS5 Release: The game by Genshin Impact is coming in the fourth quarter of 2023.
  • New Trailer for Black Desert Online Expansion: Coming on June 12, the game got a new trailer at the event.
  • Lysfanga: The Time-Shift Warrior: A new hack-and-slash game Lysfanga: The Time-Shift Warrior is coming to PC this year.
  • FaeFarm gets a release date and PC reveal: Coming to Nintendo and PC on September 8, the game will also support multiplayer and local game modes.
  • New Trailer for Throne and Liberty: Coming for Xbox Series X|S, P5, and PC, a new trailer for Throne and Liberty was revealed at Summer Game Fest.
  • The release date for Party Animals revealed: The brawler game featuring cute animals will be coming on September 20 and will be available for  PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
