After a successful run in the smartphone market and a lot of anticipation, OnePlus first foldable phone will arrive in the second half of the year. The announcement was made by the company before an event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona. OnePlus has not revealed a launch date or price for the much-anticipated foldable smartphones; however, new updates on the announcements are expected in the coming months. The company first hinted at a foldable smartphone in February 2023, during a OnePlus 11 event.

Before a OnePlus event at MWC 2023 in Barcelona, OnePlus President Kinder Liu said, “We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market. Although a foldable smartphone will be a new venture for OnePlus, its parent company, Oppo, has been selling affordable foldable smartphones in Asian markets for more than two years now. Just a week before OnePlus’ announcement, Oppo launched a new foldable smartphone the Find N2 Flip. The company’s official Twitter handle later retweeted a post from Android Authority, formally confirming the news. Oppo’s experience with selling foldable smartphones will be crucial for OnePlus as it expands into a new market for the first time in its 10-year existence.
Samsung has already dominated the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the Galaxy Fold in 2019 and the Galaxy Z Flip. In 2022 alone, Samsung claimed to have sold more than 10 million foldable devices within three years of its launch. It is, however, unclear whether OnePlus will launch a device with a similar clamshell or book-fold design to Samsung’s previous designs. Addressing the media in a press conference at MWC 2023, Kinder Liu said, “Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience”.

At this point, any crucial information except for the fact that OnePlus first foldable phone will arrive in the second half of the year is not available, which has only made the upcoming launch more exciting. OnePlus is already a popular smartphone brand among millions of users, who would expect an affordable foldable smartphone from the company. Everyone is now looking forward to a date.
