While online meetings are bane for the introverts and procrastinators who do not like leaving their home, showing face in these online meetings can be the biggest boon. If it’s the same for you, don’t worry, Microsoft now has you covered. Microsoft Teams will let you turn yourself into 3D Avatar from May.
While the feature was teased in 2021, ever since then it has been in development privately, until now. Recently Microsoft updated its Microsoft 365 Roadmap, which shows the latest updates on their productivity apps and intelligent cloud services. The new update stated, “Avatars for Microsoft Teams gives you that much-needed camera break, while still allowing you to collaborate effectively. You can add a new layer of choice to your meetings and represent yourself the way you want with customizable avatars and reactions.”

So, how do these Avatars work? Do they mimic our actions and animate them through our Avatar? Well, the answer is No. It can be exhausting to constantly appear on meetings and it is equally time taking to stay visible during meetings. Thus, the Avatars are designed to help people from appearing on screen during meetings. Instead, it will animate actions based on vocal cues alone.
The character comes with various customizations which lets the user decide how they want to be animated and perceived virtually, which makes the animations more humane. Add to that the fact that it animates actions based on vocal cues, so it would possible be able to better represent actions.
