Tech giant Google rolls out new updated UI for Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This comes just after the release of Google Material Design 3. The idea behind these changes is said to make work in these apps more simplified as per the announcement made in the Google Workspace Blog.
As per the blog, the changes will make improvements in Google Drive such as the introduction of New search chips (including type, owner, and last modified) to help a user find files faster. Also, now you can select a number of files simultaneously to undertake frequent tasks in batch operations. Google has also added some features for easy access as well as increased productivity.

Google made improvements in Docs, Sheets, and Slides which includes a much simpler interface at the top of Docs, Sheets, and Slides saving you time by placing frequently used functions just before you. Other than this Google has also made improvements in commenting, background, rulers, and gridlines. But the blog made clear that “while there are no changes in functionality, some features have been relocated to reduce clutter within the new interface. Notably, you can find the latest status info for the doc, such as last edit and version history, via a single entry point: the clock icon in the top right corner.”
The improvements in User Interface are said to be available to users with personal Google accounts but in the absence of the word ‘all,’ it seems that these functionalities are still rolling out. As is mentioned in the Google Workspace Admin Help Center, “To ensure a smooth rollout, Google releases features at different paces depending on their nature and complexity.” This includes three paces of rollout Full rollout, Gradual rollout (up to 15 days), and Extended rollout (longer than 15 days).
