Google now allows users to open their favorite shows directly on Apple Podcast from search results. This came after the company had let go of a similar feature that also allowed users to stream Google Podcasts from the search results earlier this year.
Users may also see new changes to the app interface as the company plans on gradually shifting to a new design that will offer detailed information about the podcast and will also provide links to listen to the podcast on other platforms, including Apple Podcast.
Previously, Google introduced the option to play podcasts from Google Search in 2018. However, in early 2023, many noted that the feature was removed from searches. The removal was first noticed by Pdnews.net. The outlet reported that users couldn’t play podcasts directly from the search results as the options disappeared for everyone. However, now it seems Google is reconsidering its decision and bringing a similar feature back to let users stream podcasts on Google Podcast and other platforms.
Currently, the new feature is only available to users in the United States, the company plans to roll out in other regions once the initial performance is well assessed. Since the feature will be provided in a phased roll-out some users will receive it earlier than others.
Users will be able to see a new box icon next to search when they look for a podcast with a generic search phrase such as “horror podcasts”, “funny podcast”, or “Financial Podcasts”. Here, the user will be able to see suggestions with popular titles. The app will also provide a filter button to limit the search results as per needs.
Once a user selects a podcast they will see a description with information about its new episodes and other details.
Interestingly, Apple is not the only platform that seems to be getting benefits from the new feature, as you also will get the option to listen to your show on Spotify. For the music streaming platform, the feature has been up and running for over a year now, however, it is new for Apple Podcast.
Following a successful Google I/O 2023 Event, the company has introduced significant updates to its apps and platforms, and it won’t be wrong to say that Google has taken Apple by the horns as it also launched AirTag Competitor called Nest Locator Tag at the same event.
However, now that Google allows users to open shows directly on Apple Podcast, the development seems more like a collaboration rather than competition, it will be interesting to see how the iOS users respond to it. As we keep on listening and enjoy recording podcasts.
